#02: Flowing with Flames through Storms of Change
Keeping Your Flame Alive in Uncertain Times
“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” - Alan Watts
In the dance of change, where do you find yourself hesitating on the edge? What aspects of your life or work are calling for your presence on the dance floor, yet you find yourself standing on the sidelines?
Reflecting on the rhythm of change, where in your life are you resisting the natural flow, trying to stand still in an inherently dynamic world? How might embracing the dance or moving with the changes, lead to a more fulfilling experience?
With 240,000+ jobs slashed in more recent times, it’s becoming increasingly clear that change is inevitable and the edge is closer than we often like to be reminded of. Consistency in any direction gives us a sense of comfortability and confidence that our predictions or presumptions will be right. However, the only constant is change. Shouldn’t we always be ready for the inevitable? Whether a small inconvenience or changes that shift our course and alter our overall trajectory, change will come and go. How can we proactively prepare ourselves for the constant shifts in the professional landscape, finding strength in adaptability?
Just like the skill of unearthing valuable gems through the meticulous sifting of dirt. Some individuals have managed to uncover opportunities for lucrativeness through the dramatic fluctuations of an unstable market. With no intention of selling their business, no want to be managers, and no one to answer too. The Solopreneur has emerged as someone who has found strength in owning a one-person business that allows them to navigate change with a different weapon that isn’t the traditional 9-5 occupation. Without feeling the need to rely on a cushy job with a big title or the need to rely on being a startup founder or investor with large amounts of capital to deploy or accumulate. Solopreneurs dove into change by plunging into it, moving with it, and joining the dance. They found prioritization of self-reliance, the leveraging of automation, continuous skill acquisition, and time management. These priorities enable them to navigate the challenges posed by an unpredictable and unsteady market.
How do we redefine our notions of success in the face of change, drawing inspiration from the Solopreneur's autonomy? What opportunities are we foregoing by sticking to what we know, who we know, and concepts we’re comfortable with? What untapped opportunities lie within the ebbs and flows of our creative landscapes waiting to be discovered through a lens of adaptability and resilience?
Explore the dance floor of change, and embrace the rhythm of transformation.
What change have you recently been through? What could you have done to meet change with more flow than friction?
